Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO: The Next Chapter

In the aftermath of the successful Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM anime film, the creators have quickly followed up with the announcement of a prequel currently in development: Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO. A teaser trailer that provides an early look at the forthcoming project is recently unveiled.

FREEDOM ZERO: A long-anticipated journey

Screenwriters Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita had actually penned the story for Gundam Seed FREEDOM ZERO nearly two decades before its release. The narrative was conceived during the initial planning stage for the original Gundam SEED FREEDOM, as revealed by director Mitsuo Fukuda at a screening of FREEDOM. Fukuda was joined by producer Hisakazu Naka and voice actor Soichiro Hoshi, who voices Kira Yamato. Notably, the project was initially envisioned as an Original Video Animation (OVA).

Gundam SEED FREEDOM's Box Office Triumph

Gundam SEED FREEDOM made quite the impact upon release, leaping to the top of the Japanese box office and bringing in an impressive 4.86 billion yen, making it the most profitable Gundam film released to date. The movie's global reach was expanded when it dropped on popular streaming platform, Netflix, on September 1, 2024.

Mitsuo Fukuda, the mind behind the creation of Gundam Seed, helmed the making of the film in association with Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Stepping into the Cosmic Era

According to Gundam.info, the story is set in the C.E (Cosmic Era) and revolves around two distinct groups of humans. On the one hand, are the genetically modified Coordinators characterized by their superior physical and mental capabilities, and on the other, the Naturals who are born through natural means. The bitter ideological divide between the two groups ultimately leads to an armed conflict for survival.

In the midst of the struggle, the Destiny Plan is introduced, with the aim of mapping out the roles of each individual categorically to create a world without competition. However, this plan is rebuked in favor of safeguarding human aspirations and future freedom.
