'Grisaia: Phantom Trigger' Anime Set for 2025 Start

The eagerly anticipated Grisaia: Phantom Trigger animated series is now slated for broadcast from January 1 in 2025. The series, announced in February 2022, intended to start rolling in 2024, but slight changes have been recorded in the programming schedule. This new show, part of Bibury Animation Productions, is an extension of the formerly released OVA sequence from the same franchise.

The Return of Voicing Idols

The ensemble voicing cast from the prior OVA version is returning to breath life into the characters again. Among the returning voices include Maaya Uchida, who portrays Rena, Ayane Sakura as Tohka, Christina's character is depicted by Kaori Nazuka, and Atsumi Tanezaki brings Murasaki to life.

Musical Performance

Fans will experience exhilarating audio-visual pleasure as Mao Usesugi returns to sing the opening theme song, 'Zero Ignition.' Meanwhile, Yoshino Nanjo has been committed to perform the fresh ending song, 'Dandelion.' Notably, Nanjo has been consistently providing theme songs for the series over the past decade. A creditless opening movie has been unveiled before the show's debut.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Phantom Trigger, picking up on the intriguing story of Mihama Academy from Frontwing's Grisaia visual novel series 'The Fruit of Grisaia,' has delighted its fans through its releases on Windows and Steam with nine chapters between 2017 to 2022. The series also earned popularity with its six-episode OVAs that had theatrical screenings refreshing its Blu-ray releases.

Though the delay of the TV anime's premiere date remains cloaked in mystery, the anticipation for its arrival has not waned. The series revolves around a refreshed version of Mihama Academy, accommodating a diverse pool of students honing their extraordinary talents daily, sometimes practically applying them on the job too.

The Phantom Trigger Plot

The main characters include Rena, a gunslinger alias "The Rabid Dog", a sniper named Tohka, Chris, the demolitions expert, a spy called Murasaki, and Haruto, their handler. These students, grouped under an agency called SORD (Social Ops, Research & Development), are entrusted with real guns and live ammunition. The academy now places national defense in the hands of these seemingly mismatched girls, symbolizing a unique approach to the conventional portrayal of animated heroines.
