LaPorta's performance is reminiscent of Keith Jackson, who set the previous record in 1988 and went on to have a successful career. LaPorta is also the first rookie tight end to achieve at least five catches in each of his first three games. The Lions are pleased with his performance since drafting him 34th overall from Iowa.
