Prime Video to Introduce Apple TV Plus
Prime Video's US subscribers will soon have access to Apple TV Plus content at an additional monthly rate of $9.99. This addition furthers Amazon's efforts to leverage its large subscriber base to promote Apple TV Plus, which has previously struggled to compete with leading streaming platforms.
A Win-Win Partnership?
This strategic move by Amazon could breathe new life into Apple's somewhat dormant streaming service, as Prime Video brings a vast subscriber base that lends itself well to enhancing user engagement and attracting subscribers. Notably, Amazon gets a share of the revenue generated by streaming subscriptions purchased on its platform, although the terms of this deal haven't been disclosed.
Joining Prime Video is a far cry from the typical bundled offerings such as the all-in-one Netflix, Peacock, and Apple TV Plus deals from Comcast. Nevertheless, the intent is to lure more users and diminish cancellation rates, which have been an issue for Apple TV Plus according to market reports. Amazon's move is in line with the average viewer's growing fatigue with juggling multiple subscriptions and apps.
Apple Joins a Rich Roster on Prime Video Channels
With Apple TV Plus, Amazon's Prime Video Channels now boast over 100 streaming service add-ons. This is another significant milestone in Amazon's ambition to become a "first-stop entertainment hub," according to Prime Video head Mike Hopkins. Interestingly, this vision was once held by Apple for its Apple TV service. Prime Video's new addition could awaken the platform's potential and make it a formidable competitor against giants like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Hulu.
