TL;DR: The NFL is set to make history by hosting its first regular-season game in Brazil, marking the league's expansion into South America. Scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2024, during the NFL's Kickoff Weekend, the Philadelphia Eagles will serve as the home team against an unspecified opponent at São Paulo's Corinthians Arena. This marks a significant moment in the NFL's global outreach efforts, introducing American football to a new audience in Brazil and playing on a Friday night for the first time since 1970. Alongside this historic game, the NFL will continue its international presence with three games in London and one in Munich throughout the 2024 season.

Historic Move for NFL International Games

In a groundbreaking announcement, the NFL revealed its plan to host a regular-season game in Brazil, marking the league's first foray into South America. Scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2024, this event will be part of the NFL's Kickoff Weekend, setting a precedent for international games. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell highlighted the unique timing of the game, noting it as an innovative approach for the league's opening weekend festivities.

Eagles to Host at Corinthians Arena

The Philadelphia Eagles are slated to be the home team for this historic matchup, which will take place at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. Known as the home ground for the renowned Brazilian soccer club SC Corinthians, the stadium will serve as the backdrop for the NFL's debut on South American soil. This decision underscores the NFL's commitment to expanding its global presence and engaging with a wider international audience.

A First in Many Aspects

The choice of a Friday night game in Week One is notable, as it marks the first occasion since 1970 that the NFL has scheduled a regular-season game on this day. This strategic scheduling is part of the league's broader initiative to capture global interest and offer fans around the world more opportunities to experience American football live. Additionally, the NFL's international series in 2024 will also feature three games in London and one in Munich, further emphasizing the league's dedication to growing the sport internationally.

This venture into Brazil represents not only a significant milestone for the NFL but also a historic moment for sports fans in South America, who will have the unprecedented opportunity to witness live NFL action in their region.

Honestly, aside from Canada, I don't think American style football has a following anywhere.   In fact, it's nothing like baseball which spread from the USA to the Caribbean and Japan and basketball which spread to the Philippines and probably a few other nations (I'm speaking of places where basketball is a major sport.).

It is kind of strange.  The sport itself is quite good for both TV and live watching compared to many other sports.
