Browsing via private mode

I was once advised to always browse via private mode so cookies won't get saved and airline or hotel search engines can't hike up the prices on you. Is this true? Would you consider this good practice?

I only do that when I specifically want to go to a site that I don't want to be saved to my internet history. 

(Don't worry, they're not dirty or anything like that... I'm just self-conscious about certain things 😛 )

I can see the security aspect of private mode but I too have many sites I visit with auto log-in. If I only had a few sites, I may consider it. But I'm on a lot of forums. Not all the time, but I pop in some every now & then to say Hi.

The truth is that private browsing is looking more and more appealing to me for when I randomly search stuff as the ad formulas are so aggressive anymore that a single oddball search lands me so many news articles, banners, etc for a topic I really just wanted to know a single thing about. The worst is when I want to find out something let "oh, why is everyone talking about so and so" and then my Google news is just tabloid articles and celebrity news for weeks.

Password managers make that a much less stressful task.  Although I can't say it is something I would prefer doing even with the added ease.

I never used private browsing mode at my own will. It never appealed to me for any reason whatsoever. The only time I had to use it was when I was having an issue with accessing particular site. The site owner had to ask me to make use of private mode and see if I can access the site which still didn't help.
