In an unprecedented turn of events, Swedish VPN provider Mullvad successfully fended off an attempted police seizure of its computers. As reported by PCMag and confirmed in a company update, Mullvad informed the authorities that they store no customer data, resulting in officers leaving empty-handed. This marks the first time in the company's 14-year history that a search warrant has been issued.

Mullvad VPN offers users a secure and encrypted internet connection through a private server, protecting their online privacy. Notably, the service doesn't even require an email address for sign-up, instead generating a random account number for users. In this instance, the company's strict policy against data retention proved advantageous.

CEO Jan Jonsson remains uncertain about the exact motives behind the police search. However, he emphasizes Mullvad's commitment to fighting against data retention and ensuring customer privacy. Media sources have reached out to Swedish authorities for further information but have yet to receive a response.
