I feel like it's a bit of a meaningless question TBH. Of course activists want to achieve something, otherwise they wouldn't be spending their time and effort doing it 😛 . But, as for whether activism needs a clear and explicit goal? I would say, not necessarily if they're just starting out and trying to tell the world that they exist. But once the movement reaches critical mass, they'll probably need to formulate some specific and realistic goals - otherwise they'll struggle to get beyond the "raising awareness" stage.

During the week, I'll jump out of bed straight away, but at the weekend, I'll often linger for a bit.

Excellent question! I genuinely don't know the answer... I do lean towards there being a Great Filter [i]somewhere[/i], but whether it's ahead of us or behind us is anyone's guess. It's not like we've found advanced life (or any life at all) elsewhere in the universe - but then, there are obvious candidates for Great Filters in our near future (an AI that outsmarts and enslaves us being one example of such). Or it could be that all the aliens just stay on their home worlds, because space exploration is either too dangerous or too expensive 😛 .
