  1. The old saying "You get what you pay for". It would help prevent just any ol' person from creating an account. I wish we had that on Proboards. It's great that it's free but there are cons to it. One, people Wash Rinse Repeat forums. They create one, get bored, delete it, create another. If they had to pay for it, they wouldn't be so quick to delete. Plus I feel if you pay for something, even though you still have to be bound by their rules, you the consumer has more freedom. Proboards we are limited to what we can say & do. I feel even social media has that same mentality.

If social media moved to paid, I may look into joining them once again if I knew there'd be better security & privacy with that subscription.

X Premium is $8-$11/month or $84-$115/year. I think an average of $10/month or $100/year would be good.

I keep trying to add info all the time!  Although I actually struggle with keeping the information relevant to new users.  Not that I'm a tech genius or anything, but it is oddly hard to avoid using standard terms and processes that I just assume people would know when a brand new user will get to that point and be lost.

Maybe have in parentheses the definition next to the word. An analogy perhaps.

What is helpful for me learning is to go straight to books for kids lol Or those For Dummies books. Maybe you can use some of those ideas if you'd like.

So, this is feature when a topic gets deemed a "Popular Topic".  Basically, it needs to have so many posts in x amount of time.  Once it gets deemed popular, these stats get added to the topic forever as kind of a historical thing. I have noticed some sites seem to have it on all topics, but I actually don't know how they do that or if I'd want to do that since it would be a bare box. The Count Game also has it going, but sadly not many topics have been deemed popular around here.

Thank you for letting me know! Can you set the X amount of posts or is that on Xenforo?

I too have seen it on other forums; just never know what it was called.

How is everyone doing this week?  Any feedback on the recent changes around Uncrowned Addiction?  (If you even noticed them 😅)

Well I must admit, sometimes I have blinders on & go right to the posts to reply to topics lol BUT I have noticed in this Chit Chat Thread, don't know what it's called & don't see it on every thread.

  5. Do you join a friend’s to be nice? See one advertised on another forum & check it out? Do you focus on who the owner is (how popular versus one just starting out) or do you focus more on the niche, that it’s an active forum?

I prefer being on a medium size forum. Not too small where nobody posts hardly but not too big where you get lost in the shuffle. While I have joined a friend’s to be nice, I have only stayed if it’s relevant to my own life. i.e. if they are just about Tech, it may be months before I go back as Tech is not a niche I’m familiar with.

  6. Forum that focuses on environmental, holistic (whole person) issues in a secular setting. It covers eco-friendly living, alternative natural health, mental health, & pets. There is a general section for Question of the Day, Entertainment because everybody is on their own path holistically & sometimes we just need those light-hearted discussions. Let us Learn & Grow together 🙂

Sadly, confusing guidelines and terms are a normal anymore.

Many websites, forums included, need to establish terms and conditions that include clauses about content ownership and license to use posted content, mainly due to the complex legal landscape surrounding user-generated content. This is to avoid legal complications and to enable the normal operation of the websites, such as allowing user content to appear in search results or be referenced in different parts of the sites, like in "recent posts" sections.

Without such terms, websites would indeed face significant operational and legal challenges, and would potentially need to obtain explicit permission for each use of user-generated content, which would be practically unfeasible and highly restrictive.

That's how they can get you & save their butts too. "Nobody" reads all those TOS on each website they visit. A lot of it is filler hiding the true rules.

They certainly make it a Catch 22. We need guidelines, we need terms yet I feel we need a balance. IF people were just decent human beings, we wouldn't need to worry about stealing & lying.

I feel like Facebook has major issues with linking apps to their users accounts.  Granted, I have a suspicion that most users would be upset if Facebook was too restrictive with apps as it would be a burden and most people valve security only after something happens.  Oddly enough, one of my original goals of Uncrowned Addiction was to try and be an educational resource for helping "casual" users be a bit more secure online.

It's the "We'll worry about it later" mindset. & then cross your fingers it doesn't happen to you.

People have gotten so lazy in today's society. They don't want to do the things for added security yet cry when they've been hacked & even ask, How could this happen to me!

I'd love to see UA have more educational resources for all of us. I for one like learning.

  9. People really should not take the internet for granted. Too many people's accounts, on Facebook, emails, etc can be hacked into quite easily.

Now, why wouldn't Facebook be held accountable for not having better security measures? I know it's up to the individual to be smart but FB is huge; they should have firewalls up where nothing can get through. They have FB Jail for certain keywords. So I'd think they'd make this more of a priority over somebody disagreeing with another.

That is a good point for the long term problems of nuclear war we may face.  More nations with nuclear arms are turning to extreme leadership and some are outright falling apart as nations to the point that some doubt all the weapons are even accounted for.  Even some nuclear weapons from the fall of the Soviet Union are rumored to be missing.  The future of humanity does seem like it will have a few rough patches coming up to say the least.

That also adds in the ability for a nation to pull the "I didn't do it" card out.  How would the world react to Russian made nuclear weapon being activated by a terrorist organization to destroy an enemy of Russia or even a US funded weapon being used by a nation that is collapsing to stop an uprising.  Things are likely to get even more complex as time moves on.

What the people who are for Nuclear fail to realize is that they will be in the crossfire as well. The whole Earth will be a wasteland if enough people retaliate. & you know they will. They'll have an attitude of, Well he fired first so we have to fire back. It will be neverending!

Living in an underground bunker. How long do they actually think they can survive down there? & if the Earth is that devastated, it won't be temporary housing either.

Those who make the weapons would be held accountable as well if those weapons are lost, stolen, etc.

@Uncrowned GuardIf you need more or less, let me know. 🙂

  12. For free, I will go with Proboards. It'd give a 5 star rating if they let us migrate over to another platform 😛

For paid, Xenforo for me as well. I've been on several of them & while they are the pricier platforms, you do get what you pay for & I've seen a lot of quality.

Happy Thursday all! Soon be the weekend, we are oh so close!

Do you have any plans for this weekend?

    Have a great Thursday!

We have some last Fall chores to complete. Packing away the hoses, etc. What about you?

  14. A nuclear strike won't just affect that area. Even if we don't "feel" it here, everything is connected in this world.

The USA needs better authority. Our military was one of honor & respect. Evoked healthy fear. Now, we are not taken seriously.

& I don't worry just about Putin. Other leaders have been a bit "off their rocker" as well. One is bad enough but if they align with each other & the rest of the world is divided over such trivial things, I don't have much hope for the human race.

Passkeys do seem like a good thing, but also still remain an easily to spoof method of logging in.  While they are more secure than passwords, I do worry about users getting lazy and oversaturated with login requests and accepting scam logins and such going forward.

That is the issue with humans nowadays. They get lazier & lazier with all this tech. Thinking tech will save them & protect them. They don't realize that those behind the tech can monitor us.
